The slabs to be honed are sprinkled with water and then subjected to treatment by a series of abrasive heads. The grain size used on the abrasive heads determines the finished appearance. The surface is lightly reflective, smooth and dull. There are no visible grooves or other markings. A lightly honed finish is usually preferred to a polished finish in rooms where water on the floor can give rise to a danger of slipping (e.g. bathrooms). Honed floor tiles are also frequently used for areas of heavy pedestrian traffic.
