Brachot commits to Fair Sandstone
Brachot is committed to a more sustainable trade, and that is expressed in transparency, risk awareness, action and monitoring. Fair Sandstone maps the entire supply chain, to the quarry.
What does Fair Sandstone mean?
In India, where popular sandstone products such as Kandla Grey and Kandla Ochre are purchased, the working and living conditions are sometimes questionable. Visible problems are now reported and not swept under the carpet. The results are concrete actions on location. Examples include improvements in production, more housing options, health insurance and safety clothing. The monitoring is based on one hand on self-assessment and on the other hand on the involvement of external parties.
TruStone: our commitment
Society, buyers and the government are increasingly asking for guarantees with respect to Fair Sandstone. In that context, Brachot signed the TruStone Initiative in May 2019. The members of this covenant commit to responsible business practices with respect for people and nature. The Dutch and Flemish natural stone sectors work together with governments, NGOs and trade unions to meet all the major international standards for the responsible and more sustainable production and purchase from countries such as India and China.
No Child Left Behind
In 2014, Brachot joined the worldwide ‘Stop Child Labour’ campaign with ‘No Child Left Behind’. The project is based on the vision that every child has the right to a childhood and a decent education. The focus is on banning child labour in Budhpura (India), where a lot of sandstone is purchased. This is achieved through long-term support to the NGO Manjari to give the local families a better life.
