Rouge Belge: Belgian Marble From The Ardennes
Rouge Belge, also known as Rouge Royal, is a Belgian red limestone from the Ardennes with a striking red-pink base colour, lively distributed light-grey veining and visible fossils. Geologically a compact limestone, it has been traded commercially as marble for centuries. Colour variations always occur to a greater or lesser extent, even within the same batch, giving every project a unique character.
The stone has been quarried since Roman times and has played a prominent role in construction and sculpture throughout the centuries. It graced churches and public buildings, but found its way equally into the windowsills and fireplaces of Belgian townhouses. Its frost resistance makes it a popular choice for cladding and monuments in colder climates as well. Notable examples include the Palace of Versailles and the Royal Saint-Hubert Galleries in Brussels.
Red marbles with earthy tones are making a strong return as a natural stone trend in 2026, and Rouge Belge fits naturally into that picture: not as a newcomer, but as a stone with centuries of history behind it.
Fine-grained, hard and workable, Rouge Belge polishes to a distinctive lustre. It is suitable for all applications in both interior and exterior settings: floor, wall and stair finishing. Come and discover the stone in our Stone Gallery.
