A marble bathroom creates a serene, luxurious atmosphere. The material's veining and colour range, from soft whites like Bianco Carrara to deep, dramatic tones like Cosmic Black, bring natural character to any space. Marble combines well with wood, metal or other materials, so you can build a personal style. In the bathroom, marble is often chosen for floors and wall tiles that work together, while sinks and vanity units in marble add an extra layer of refinement. Every slab has its own veining, giving each piece a distinct character. Marble is heat and stain resistant, though scratches and acidic substances should be avoided.

For bathroom applications, honed marble is generally recommended, as it is less prone to staining and water spots. Polished marble can also be used, but requires more maintenance to keep its flawless finish.

Choosing Natural Stone Tiles for Your Bathroom

Choosing the right natural stone for a bathroom comes down to a few practical factors, alongside the look you want to achieve.

  • Finish and slip resistance. Alongside a honed finish, we often recommend an arenado or sensato finish for bathroom floors. These are tactile finishes with a light surface texture, which gives them natural slip resistance, even when wet. Travertine also has an inherent structure of its own: the natural pores in the stone add texture to the surface, making it well suited to bathroom applications.

  • Format and grout lines. Large-format tiles create a calmer, more spacious look and reduce the number of grout lines, which also means less grout to maintain over time. Smaller formats can add texture and are often used for shower floors or curved areas where large slabs are harder to install.

  • Porosity and sealing. Natural stone varies in porosity: limestone and travertine are more porous than marble or granite, so they benefit from proper sealing to resist water and staining in a humid environment. A well-sealed floor keeps its character with minimal extra care.

  • Matching floor and wall. Using the same stone, or closely related tones, on both floor and walls creates a seamless, cohesive look and makes a small bathroom feel larger. Contrasting tones work well too, for a more defined, layered design.

Spa-like Bathrooms

Bathrooms are increasingly designed as spaces for small daily moments of self-care. Spa-like bathrooms use natural stone or porcelain cladding throughout, with the patterns and textures of marble, limestone or quartzite creating a calm, high-end atmosphere. Large-format natural stone floor tiles complete the look, either matched to the walls or contrasting with them.
