Built to Last – The Strength of Tarn Granite

Granite extracted by Granitarn is a very solid and durable French natural stone with unique properties and exceptional resistance to wear. Thanks to its exceptional hardness and durability, Tarn granite is widely used in areas with heavy usage and high traffic density, such as public spaces and urban environments. It is ideal for paving projects, large-scale architectural applications, monuments, and also adds value in interior design.

This natural stone is recyclable, extremely hard, and resistant, making it a true force of nature. It offers excellent frost resistance withstanding more than 240 cycles – almost double the French requirements – guaranteeing superior longevity. With a compressive strength exceeding 190 MPa, nearly twice the standard for class 6 paving stones (EN 1342), Tarn granite ensures outstanding solidity and durability.

Composed of alkaline and plagioclase feldspars, grey quartz, and black biotite, Tarn granite has a distinctive granularity and natural colour variations that highlight both its technical performance and its aesthetic appeal.

Our granites

Granitarn extracts local Tarn granite from its own quarries. These include Tarn Royal, Tarn Fin Grain and Tarn Gros Grain. These types of Tarn derive their hardness and strength from the composition of the Sidobre Massif, from where we extract high quality blocks.

This French Tarn is composed of alkaline and plagioclase feldspars, grey quartz and black biotite. These are what give this natural stone its variations in granularity and colouring.

Abrasion-resistant finishes

The company has a collection of highly modern machinery to give the different types of tarn a wide variety of finishes. Standard surface finishes such as flaming, bush hammering or sandblasting yield an anti-slip stone with a rough look and a robust feel. If you prefer the purity of a stone hewn directly from a block, the cut finish is the perfect choice. Bespoke inhouse developed finishes are also available for any project.

Urban development

On account of its exceptional hardness, Tarn is also in great demand in areas of high traffic density, for instance, in urban environments.

Granitarn's modern and optimised production site offers a wide range of products for urban development. In addition to products from the Tarn, other French natural stones such as Rose de la Clarté and Nero Angola are also available. We offer blocks, slabs, cobbles, outdoor tiles, kerbstones, platform strips, paving stones and tactile paving, doorsteps, urban/street furniture, etc. All of these are available in many formats, styles and finishes.

Sustainability, around the world

French stone is a natural product with a unique appearance and an ecological character that lasts a lifetime. Granitarn supports this sustainable character. First of all, by putting the emphasis on local production of Tarn and other natural stones and, secondly, by our selection of a central location in Burlats.

We therefore invested in a modern factory equipped with the latest-generation machinery. Thanks to solar panels and a water recycling system for eco-responsible management, the site runs on renewable energy and is almost climate neutral. In addition, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are available for blocks as well as finished paving products (slabs, cobblestones, kerbs) in Tarn and Rose de la Clarté.

From Burlats, we can arrive on site rapidly, which in turn translates into reduced CO₂ emissions. We can deliver within just a few hours not only to Nice, Marseilles or Paris, but also to Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain or Switzerland.
